| May 31, 2001 New Claims For State Unemployment Up 8,000 For Week Ending May 26 Claims for state unemployment benefits rose 8,000 for the week ending May 26, to 419,000, according to statistics released by the Labor Department and reported by the Associated Press. The increase is the third consecutive weekly uptick. Jobless claims for the week ending May 19, previously reported as rising by 15,000, were adjusted to 19,000, says the Labor Department. The four-week-moving average for the week ending May 26 dropped by 1,500 to 402,500. The AP reported that Oklahoma had the largest increase in unemployment claims, up by 2,196. |
