Gearing Up For Summer Driving

1385792_australiaSummer is just around the corner.  And if you live in the desert, summer is most likely already in full swing.  Regardless, hot temperatures require preparation.  This preparation is more than simply getting a new bathing suit.  In fact, one of the smartest things you can do to prepare for summer is take care of your car.

Air Conditioning

Start by focusing on your car’s air conditioning.  Does it have the proper amount of Freon? You can have this checked at the local service store or at the dealership.  It is important to look into this now, before the hot temperatures come.  There is nothing worse than driving in 100 without enough air.  And in those temperatures, rolling down the windows is not really an option.  So make sure your air conditioning is up to par.

Tinted Windows

Next, consider tinting your windows.  There is nothing worse than getting in a hot car after a long day of work.  Avoid overheating when you drive with tinted windows.  These windows can shield your car when it’s parked in the sun.  This way your car stays a little bit cooler.  It’s a nice feature – especially since a few degrees can be the difference between over heating and just a little hot.  Call around and look for pricing deals.  This expense does not have to cost a lot.

Tires

Next, check your tires.  Make sure that they have optimal tire pressure and that they have enough tread.  Also, talk to the local tire shop about your tires.  When it gets hot, your tires take a lot of abuse.  They need to hold up in the hot weather.   Although it is not cheap to buy tires & wheels, it could be the purchase you need for your summer driving.  This is particularly important if you plan on taking summer road trips.  Excess miles can cause stress on your car.  Don’t let this happen.

Have the best summer with a car that is ready for the road.  Car problems will only get in the way of your fun, so prepare now for the best time on the road in the heat.
